Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what information ShipCalc processes when you use our free shipping weight and cost calculator.
Last updated: 2026-10-15
ShipCalc (“ShipCalc”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the ShipCalc website and calculator tools. This policy applies to the ShipCalc website available at the domain from which you access the service.
1. Summary
- Core shipping calculations run in your browser. We do not operate a ShipCalc backend that stores your package dimensions, weights, or rate inputs for the calculator MVP.
- We store your theme preference locally in your browser so light/dark mode can persist between visits.
- Our hosting provider may process standard technical logs (such as IP address, user agent, and request timestamps) to deliver and secure the website.
- If we enable analytics or Google AdSense later, those third parties may process technical and advertising-related data as described below and in their own policies.
2. Information processed in your browser
When you use the calculator, values such as package length, width, height, actual weight, dimensional divisor, shipping charges, packaging costs, and optional profitability inputs are entered by you and calculated locally on your device. Those shipment details are not transmitted to a ShipCalc application server as part of the core calculator workflow in this version.
ShipCalc stores a theme preference in browser localStorage under the key shipcalc-theme so we can remember whether you chose light, dark, or system theme.
3. Hosting and technical logs
The website is designed for static hosting (for example, Cloudflare Pages or a similar CDN host). Hosting and CDN providers typically process technical information needed to serve pages securely and reliably, which may include IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, referring URL, requested path, and timestamps. That processing is controlled by the host’s terms and privacy documentation.
4. Fonts and front-end resources
ShipCalc uses web fonts loaded through Next.js font optimization (currently Plus Jakarta Sans and IBM Plex Mono via Google Fonts infrastructure at build/runtime as configured). Depending on deployment and browser conditions, font delivery may involve requests to Google services. Google’s handling of such requests is governed by Google’s privacy terms.
5. Advertising and analytics (when enabled)
ShipCalc may display advertising through Google AdSense or similar authorized partners after the site meets applicable program requirements. Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, limit ad frequency, and (where permitted) personalize ads.
If we enable analytics tools (for example, Google Analytics), those tools may collect aggregated usage information such as pages visited, approximate geography, device category, and referral source. We will configure analytics to avoid sending unnecessary shipment field values.
When advertising or analytics cookies that are not strictly necessary are used, we will provide an appropriate notice and choices where required by applicable law.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Depending on configuration, ShipCalc may use:
- Essential local storage for theme preference.
- Hosting/security cookies or edge signals used by the CDN or bot-management features.
- Advertising/analytics cookies only if those products are enabled.
7. Children’s privacy
ShipCalc is intended for general business and shipping planning use and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the calculator.
8. Data retention
Because calculator inputs are processed in-browser, ShipCalc does not retain those shipment values on an application server in this MVP. Theme preference remains until you clear site data. Hosting logs are retained according to the hosting provider’s retention settings.
9. Your choices
- Clear site data in your browser to remove the theme preference.
- Use browser controls or industry opt-out tools for advertising cookies where available.
- Contact us to ask privacy-related questions using the details on the Contact page.
10. International visitors
ShipCalc may be accessed from multiple countries. Technical data may be processed in the regions used by our hosting and third-party providers. If you use ShipCalc from the EEA, UK, or similar jurisdictions, lawful bases for processing may include legitimate interests in operating and securing the website, and consent where required for non-essential cookies or personalized advertising.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect product, legal, or operational changes. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of ShipCalc after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
